M Performance Automobiles line up at the start with the M Sport package as a standard feature. In addition to the M Sport suspension, it also contains the M aerodynamics package. Also included in the package are enlarged air inlets in the front apron in order to cool the engines and a colour-contrasting rear diffusor insert. Yet the M Performance Automobiles offer much more still. Outside and inside they have exclusive options to clearly distinguish them from their respective model series. Optically and technically they master their role as cars suitable for everyday use with a perfect guarantee of adrenalin, thus closing the gap between the top models of the series and the high-performance automobiles from BMW M GmbH.

The unmistakeable design details of the M Performance Automobiles include additional applications in accent colour within the front apron.
Kidney grille in signature colour.
Selected elements of the kidney grille captured in signature colour provide exclusive eye-catchers. The BMW M760Li xDrive uses colour to highlight the kidney grille, the BMW M550i xDrive includes it in a stylish frame while the BMW X4 M40i accentuates the slats of the kidney grille.
Exclusive light alloy wheels.
Selected M Performance Automobiles line up with exclusive wheel styling in signature colour. With their impressive dimensions, the specially developed M Performance wheels are the largest in each of their respective ranges.
M logo on the side wall.
The M logo in Dark Chrome or Cerium Grey, according to the model, is an elegant way of accentuating that the vehicle is an M Performance Automobile.
Exterior mirror caps in accent colour.
The curved mirror caps are finished in Ferric Grey or Cerium Grey, according to the model. Their aerodynamic design offers barely any resistance to the airstream.

M Performance Automobiles are instantly recognisable because of the exhaust pipe finishers on both sides, which are designed specifically for the respective model. The result is a powerful looking tail.

The specific model designation in accent colour with the integrated “M” on the rear underlines the close relationship between the M Performance Automobiles and the models of BMW M.

The M Performance Automobiles are equipped with powerful engines, which are among the most efficient in every model series. Each one underlines the unique selling point of the respective model. The sole inline six-cylinder is employed in the BMW 1 Series and 2 Series. Eight cylinders and an impressive acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds make the BMW M550i xDrive a truly exceptional athlete. As if that were not enough: with 4 turbochargers for the first time ever, the BMW M550d xDrive featuring the M Performance TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder diesel engine offers extremely sporty acceleration figures. Also guaranteeing boundless driving dynamics is the BMW X3 M40i, with its M Performance TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder petrol engine of the latest generation delivering 265 kW (360 hp) at a maximum torque of 500 Nm. The aluminium engine in the BMW X4 M40i lines up at the start with a forged steel crankshaft and components from the high-performance engine of the current BMW M3 and M4 models. The only V12 petrol engine with 610 hp is reserved – for the BMW M760Li xDrive. Impressive power units with driving characteristics further intensified by their spine-tingling, emotive sound.

More traction: BMW xDrive
M Performance Automobile cars are equipped with the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system either as an option or a standard feature. It permanently distributes the driving forces to all four wheels according to the current coefficients of friction. Dynamics, traction and agility are noticeably improved in all driving situations. To meet the special demands of driving dynamics in the M Performance Automobiles, the system has been designed with greater emphasis on the rear wheels and hence on sporting character.
Sporty tuning: the chassis
In order to translate the outstanding engine performance into impressive and authoritative driving dynamics, M Performance Automobiles have specific settings for the suspension. These include individually configured spring and damping systems as well as specific elasto-kinematics for the front axle. In the BMW X5 M50d and BMW X6 M50d, Adaptive suspension with Dynamic Damping Control guarantees precise handling control. The BMW M760Li xDrive features a suspension system, Executive Drive Pro, specially tuned to its sportier character: Its electromechanical roll reduction fitted as standard lends the limousine particularly athletic driving properties.
For precise manoeuvring: the steering
The steering sensation in an M Performance Automobile is unique. Precise responses from every manoeuvre and the smooth feeling when taking tight bends whet the appetite for even sportier experiences. Power steering and the self-centring effect have been individually modified for all models. In the BMW M760Li xDrive, Integral Active Steering additionally comes into play as a standard feature to increase agility and driving safety. In contrast, the BMW X4 M40i is one of the M Performance Automobiles with specifically tuned variable sports steering, which further refines steering precision through optimised feedback signals from the road.
Pure performance: tyres and brakes
M Performance Automobiles are equipped with the largest available M wheels. A specifically tuned Performance tyre is fitted to selected models. Extremely durable high-performance fibres guarantee maximum possible stability of the tread and deliver maximum grip even during dynamic cornering. Their outstanding braking properties are further enhanced by braking systems with the largest possible discs in each case. A number of the M Performance models, such as the BMW M240i or the BMW M550i xDrive, have M Sport brakes fitted as standard to bring them resolutely to a standstill.
